5 manga you should try reading now that Naruto is over.

naruto post

The Naruto manga series finally closed up shop today and so most of you that follow the series are probably going through the hurts and feels. It is a series that has been around for quite some time and I’d be lying if said that I won’t miss it in my weekly manga reads. Alas all things come to an end whether we want them to or not.  So to help with the pain of the coming weeks, months and years without Jumps blond hair, orange jumpsuit hero I’ve compiled a list of five manga series that I believe that you should take a look at.

One Piece

I’m starting the list with the most logical choice for manga, one piece. It’s currently the most successful long running manga series of modern times and is kinda the only one of the big 3 (Naruto, Bleach, One Piece) that will be around for some more years to come. Oda has said that the manga is only at its midpoint. A midpoint that is more than 700 chapters in and still as exciting is a wonderful thing. I will assume that most of you have already read this one and are currently caught up to the current chapter, but for those of you that have somehow avoided doing so for whatever reason or the other, you are the lucky ones. You get to start this series from the beginning and experience one of the most amazing adventures I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. You will care, you will feel and you will cry. We all have and so will you.

Btooom!

Like One Piece I have written extensively about this manga in the past, even going so far as to write about a concept game for the series. Btooom! Isn’t a weekly series like Naruto and OP, but I’ll add it anyway because it’s just that good. It’s a story that takes a more realistic look at things and in some ways reminds me of a good Gantz. People die all the time, characters are well fleshed out, and the art is amazing. There’s even ben some slight ecchi in there, so everyone is covered. The story is about a few people that have been sent to an island to fight, kill and survive, hmm kinda like hunger games now that I think about it. It’s only got 70 chapters so far, making it nice for a nice weekend read.

Ansatsu Kyoushitsu

Ansatsu Kyoushitsu OVA

“Exciting fun”, that’s how I’d describe this manga. It’s still in its infant stage where every enemy can be defeated within 10 to 20 chapters, and the characters are al at that light hearted stage where they can easily readjust to normal life after these battles. Will this manga be the next best thing? I can’t answer that question. What I can say is that so far it has kept me interested more than 90 chapters in and I hope it continues to do so going forward. It’s still got some mystery surrounding certain characters, and no really serious enemy yet, none that can go one on one with Koro-sensei.  When a character of that calibre appears then this manga will become serious. Till then it’s all about the development of the many students and that strangely enough I’ve managed to keep a track of and their individual development into skilled, lethal hitmen/women.

Minamoto-Kun Monogatari

This one is only added to the list because it’s currently one of the only regular ecchi series that I’m following. I’m going to be blunt and say there was boob, lots of ecchi and a story that as confusing as a chameleon in a bag of skittles. However it is a series that has managed to keep me interested while I’ve dropped many others and that says something about it. The story about a boy living with his incestuous aunt who encourages him to shag lots of girls to get over his fear of females and for her own sick research all seems put together to find different ways to make ecchi. Each girl’s arc seems like a separate story by itself. Only managing to pull you in just long enough till the shag. After that point it starts from square one with another girl almost eliminating the previous one completely from the mix in the process. The characters don’t seem to grow, yet alone develop properly. I find it hard to believe that they can be real; it’s like watching porn really, except it’s censored in parts. Pick this one up only to for fill your own pervy fantasies and nothing more.

Onepunch-Man

The action of one punch man has fans and critics equally excited. Here you have a bloke that can end a fight in just one punch. This man that was just an ordinary bloke that one day decide to become a hero and just did, because that’s exactly how you become a hero, right? Well in the world of one punch man it is. Our main character Saitama is no average bloke. As far as we know he is almost indestructible, is super-fast, powerful, but can’t fly. Yeah I know how lame right, he can’t fly. Anywho that’s OK he transcends his lack of flight by the overwhelming amount of power he has in his punch. Each opponent that has faced him has been defeated in just one punch. These are punches that blast through a bloke’s stomach like a cannon blast sending guts and all their squishy bits flying everywhere. OK, OK I know you’re all excited by this point. So what are you waiting for get it!

What else I’m reading:

  • Nana to kauru
  • Sket Dance
  • Hunter X hunter
  • The Breaker

    1. Yeah (AK) is a 😀 Nice! read. I’m looking forward to how this current arc plays out.

I’ve never read manwaha before but i did skim Girl of Wild, but those chapters seemed rather short.
