30-DAY ANIME CHALLENGE! (DAY 18): Favorite Supporting Female Character

DAY 18:  Favorite Supporting Female Character

Now, female supporting characters are little bit more complex than male supporting characters.  That’s because, most of the time, supporting female characters are either flavorless characters, oversexualized nobodies, or cardboard-cutout personalities, all with no involvement whatsoever with the story.

However, there are a handful of awesome female side characters out there, all of which are relatable and interesting characters that we can actually give a shit about.

As for me, my personal favorite, after scrolling through my Hummingbird account for several hours, is:

Margery Daw, from Shakugan no Shana

Initially an arrogant bitch with a drinking problem who lived only for the sake of vengeance, over the course of the 3 seasons, Margery Daw developed to become……….an arrogant, but wise and mature woman…..with a drinking problem.  Margery set out to become a notorious Flame Haze, nicknamed “The Murderer”, who mercilessly slaughters any and all Crimson Denizen she meets, in her quest to exact revenge upon a denizen with silver-colored flames.  Eventually, however, she shifts her focus from hunting down the silver-flamed denizen to helping other Flame Hazes to maintain balance between the Crimson Realm and the real world.

And she does so with epic flair.

Margery Daw is the Flame Haze of the Crimson Lord, Marchosias, who takes the form of a spellbook, and being bound to a powerful book (haha, get it? because a book is “bound”, and she’s “bound”……nevermind) has its perks.  Known as the “Chanter of Elegies”, Margery is able to create powerful spells by ad libbing rhymed poems, usually in the form of explosive blue fire blasts.  Aside from blowing stuff up, her spells can also be used to fly, increase her physical strength, or as a sealing mechanism.

However, the skill that Margery is best known for is her ability to transform into an indigo werewolf, which increases her already strong physical prowess and spellcasting ability.  Additionally, she can unleash her FINAL FORM and transform into a GIANT MULTI-HEADED WEREWOLF THAT SHOOTS PURPLE FIRE BALLS.

Honestly, if you haven’t gotten my point yet, then there’s something wrong here.

Margery’s awesome.  End of story.

See you guys in Day 19!

      1. Glad to hear that you enjoyed it more than I did. I just felt that the final season sacrificed story for action. The reason why the two opposing factions were killing each other made little sense to me.
