Manga Review | Sailor Fuku, Tokidoki Apron

Sailor fuku tokidoki

Sailor Fuku Tokidoki is a manga that I started reading after I had finished Pastel. I can’t remember how I started reading this one, maybe it was a suggestion based on my reading habits by my manga app, or maybe I stumbled upon it while searching for something to read. How I started however is not what matters. What matters is do I stop or do I continue reading this series, because currently I have quite a few issues with this one.

OK so let’s get into this one shall we.

When one takes the time to read a manga series, one wants to feel as though each page, each chapter, each volume is worth it. If ever that is not the case then It begins to feel like you’re reading filler. (For those less informed filler is content that is not directly related to the main plot, and may just be there as a way for a managaka to fill a chapter quota that they may have made with their publisher). the reason I mention this is because this manga all feels like filler when it really isn’t. Each chapter is interconnected in some way, but due the short length of each and the way in which they start and end it all feels like individual stories that share the same character. Some manga use short chapters to their benefit, but then there are those like this one that stuffs mini stories together in 17 pages and fails to capture that feeling of continuity no matter if your 10 or 61 chapters in. Oh and here is the worst part about this manga, “it is a monthly release“. So you gotta wait approximately 30 days before you read the next underwhelming 17 pages.  For these reasons I might just drop it, because the payoff doesn’t seem like it’s  worth the wait.

Wait a sec….. you’re somehow still reading? hmm, Wow you must really want to know about this manga. I’m surprised. I have just ripped it apart in my first paragraph and you’re still here. Oh well I guess I’ll tell you about the story now seeing as you’re still here.

The plot of this manga is about a 17 year old high school girl named Honoka who moves to an apartment building owned by her grandfather to become the landlord. Now Honoka’s grandfather is a pervy old man so all the tenants currently living In the apartments are relatively attractive young women. Honoka herself is also pretty cute and her tenants who somehow are also pervs all take notice of that fact and use every opportunity to sexually harass her.  This situations is not helped by the fact that they are all older than her and also that she is a bit gullible. This story is not one with any kind of special twist. It is by the books and somehow seems to serve as a way to just have a medium to undress the characters or dress them up in many different alluring outfits.

ecchi, because
like this

Seeing as there is not much more to say about the plot I might as well mention the art. It being really good actually is probably the reason that I stuck around for 61 chapters. It is a relatively clean art style. One that you would expect in an ecchi manga of this nature. The ecchi art is also very sexually appealing. The mangaka drew the girls in some pretty interesting angles that more often than not have no relevance to what is happening in the story, It’s all cheap. With no deep plot or romance to tie it all together this story of perverted tenants molesting their landlady gets old fast. This makes the ecchi not desirable, or as I’d like to think, ecchi is a little reward to mix up the fun while reading an engaging story. There are panels where there is just an unnecessary pantsu shot or some partially nude one. These are not necessary if you ask me, and don’t get me wrong I’ve still got my man card safely tucked away in my wallet it’s just that the execution is poor, and that bores me.

These are not necessary if you ask me
These are not necessary if you ask me

As a manga series Sailor Fuku Tokidoki is not one that I would recommend anyone starting, unless they are just in it for the cheap thrills. If you’re like me and prefer your manga to have good stories then avoid this one. The chapters take too long to be released and what you get after is not worth the wait. Quick side note this manga is done by the same Kobayashi Toshihiko who did both Pastel and Parallel, both manga that I enjoyed.
