“Doorways: Chapter 1” — Inside the Minds of Psychopaths!

I remember first hearing about Doorways sometime last year, when I encountered it on a Steam sale and then did a bit of research on YouTube to get an idea of how the game played. For some reason, I didn’t pick it up back then, but I had thought about it several times since then. Well, as luck would have it, the game appeared on a Bundle Stars bundle here the other day and I decided that it was too good of a deal to pass up, so I picked up Doorways: Chapters 1 & 2, as well as several other indie games, for a steal.

So, Doorways first appeared on Steam in September of 2013 with the release of the first two chapters. Chapter 3 made its appearance in 2014 and now Chapter 4 (the final one) is planned for a late-2015 release.

In Doorways, you play as Thomas Foster, a special agent with telepathic abilities who delves deep into the mind of vicious psychopaths in order to understand their motives, find them, and bring justice to their victims. The game has a very dark and mysterious tone to it, can be quite surreal in places, and definitely has its scary moments.

In Chapter 1, we head deep into the dark woods (as well as a castle and torture chamber) to understand a killer known as “The Professor.” This chapter has a few puzzles to figure out along the way, and I really found certain parts quite unsettling. The jump-scares were kept to a minimum this time around, but the atmosphere was pretty thick and I still had a heck of a time playing it.

Chapter 2 is coming soon, so be on the lookout if you enjoyed this one!
