PlayStation Plus August 2015

Vote-To-Play-Your-Favorite-PlayStation-4-Games-665x385

We’ve reached the last month of the summer, and if you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber, Sony has a new batch of free games for you to download. Once again, there are no big budget blockbusters this time, but with the surprise success of Rocket League last month, it wouldn’t hurt to check out these titles.

Starting next month, Plus members will also have input on the free games offered for the month. The new program is called Vote to Play, and gamers will be able to vote for one of three games to be free for next month’s Plus. The two games that aren’t selected will be offered at a discount, so everybody wins. But enough about next month, let’s see what we get for free THIS month!

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris (PS4)

This title leads the list because it’s the one I’m most excited by. Up to four players cooperatively solve temple puzzles. I really enjoyed the previous-gen Guardian of Light, and I look forward to playing this with friends.

God of War: Ascension (PS3)

Kratos is back, and he’s mad about something. This game came out late in the PlayStation’s lifespan, and isn’t considered part of the official “trilogy”. The positive side to this is that many Sony gamers haven’t played this before, so it’s actually a decent title for Plus to offer. Ascenscion is also the first God of War to feature multiplayer. Hopefully making this free for many users on Plus will boost the numbers in the online lobbies.

limbo

Limbo (PS4)

If you haven’t already played this dark side-scrolling puzzle platformer on PC, Vita, Xbox, etc., etc., now you have no excuse!

stealth2

Stealth Inc. 2: A Game of Clones (PS4, PS3, PS Vita)

Another puzzle platformer, this one featuring an army of adorable robot clones.

sound shapes

Sound Shapes (PS4, PS3, PS Vita)

This game plays great on the Vita, if you happen to be lucky enough to have one. As you bounce off objects in the world, they add notes to the levels soundtrack, creating new riffs and sound loops. Headphones recommended for this one!

castlestormCastleStorm (PS3, PS Vita)

This game has been described as building Lego castles and then destroying them, and that sounds pretty fun to me! I’m also glad it’s not another 2D side-scrolling platformer, because frankly, three is enough for one month. I’m looking forward to checking this one out.

If none of this month’s free titles strike your fancy, don’t forget to vote next month, and in the meantime, you can check out the PS Store Summer Sale. For this second out of three weeks, highlights for sale include Assassin’s Creed Unity and Lords of the Fallen for PS4,and quite a few RPGs for the Vita, including Dangonronpa 1 and 2 for a steal. Check out the sale by clicking the picture below, and as always, tune into the Plug and Play podcast to hear my expanded opinions and experiences with these and other games.
