“Mega Man: Super Fighting Robot” — Awesome Free Game!!

As I have said time and time again, the internet is rife with Mega Man fan-games of all sorts. Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 spawned a revived interest in classic-style Mega Man games, and the list is pretty exhaustive. Mega Man Unlimited, MM Rockforce, Mega Man Eternal, and Mega Man Revolution all stand out as high quality titles, but for every good one out there, there are several not-so-good ones.

Mega Man: Super Fighting Robot may pay homage to the Ruby Spears cartoon from the 1990s, but it is in name only. The game itself is very much classic Mega Man at its best, but the developer, Mr. Weird Guy, really threw some good twists on it all. First, the game has an awesome musical score that is unique to it. Second, it has a very interesting cast of robots and great cutscene styles. Yet, the game also has a very steep difficulty curve. Yet, the difficulty is matched by a really cool feature: upgradable armor and body pieces. For 400 bolts (or screws, whatever you want to call them) each, you can purchase Helmet, Buster, Armor, and Leg upgrades that each add a boost in some sort of power (movement and jump speed/height, buster speed and power, defense, etc.). This kind of makes the game have a minor Mega Man X series feel to it, because early on you want to work towards these upgrades.

The game may be beatable at this time, but it’s not finished. Lots of bonus and special content is on the way.

The video here is a gameplay sample where I go through two of the eight robot master stages in 1080p60 to give you an idea of how it all feels. I hope you enjoy it!

If you want to get the game yourself, download it for free right here.
