Top 25 Anime Ending Themes, Version 1.0: Part 5

At last!

After literally MONTHS of wait…

Now’s the moment that I reveal to you, my gentle patrons, my final top 3 ED themes.

And then some.

IT’S THE FINAL COUNTDOOOOOWN!

Shall we begin?

One last time.

3.)  Don’t Say Lazy, by Sakuragaoka High School Light Music Club

          K-On!  ED 1

One of the ending themes that, in my humble and superior opinion, should be included in every top ending list, “Don’t Say Lazy” is a song that not only fulfills the musical void that the show it’s attached to has created what with its lack of music, but also does so beautifully with gorgeous animation and a beat that is unmistakably pretty.  Ignoring how much the fanbase in general loves this ED theme to bits, the song is a rather nice listen on its own, and is a perfect fit for a show such as K-On.

Or, rather, I think this ending theme is what K-On wanted to be all along but just somehow got lost in its development.

Ah well.

C’est la vie.

Ok, now before I start the next one on this list, I’ll have to warn you first:

If you’re not ok about me cheating on this list by adding a #2.5th ED theme just because I had to put this song somewhere on the top 5 without jeopardizing my credibility, then by all means please leave now.

Ok, you’re still here.

Well, I did warn you guys.

So here it is.

2.5.)  Ring Your Bell, by Kalafina

Fate Stay/Night Unlimited Blade Works (2014) ED 2

Yeah I might have just lost the rest of my followers with this ballsy maneuver, but I seriously needed to put this song SOMEWHERE on the list.  Like, it trumps the rest of the ED themes on this list in terms of both animation (which looked IMMACULATE in this particular ending, i.e. once the chorus starts) and the music itself (my favorite Kalafina work yet, as it just sounds like something that was played on Heaven on repeat IMO), but it still isn’t enough to trump the ACTUAL #2 spot and certainly not enough to take down my #1.

But still, considering that I discovered this song just a couple of DAYS after I finished the 4th part to this top ED series and it got on this list somehow, ignoring how ludicrous it is to have a “.5” spot on ANY list ever, is still something to consider.

Just listen and watch the ED theme.  Hopefully you will agree with my decision.

2.)  Secret Base, by Kayano Ai & Tomatsu Haruka & Hayami Saori

          Anohana ED 1

This one doesn’t need too many explanations, does it?

The song is great.  The animation is great.  And, above everything else on this list, it personifies its respective series sooooooo so well, being able to represent its moments of sadness as well as its moments of immense catharsis beautifully.

It’s almost as if you can’t imagine the show without this ED theme.  Being an ending theme that brings its own thing to the table and melds well with the show itself is something that not a lot of ending themes do perfectly, and I’m happy to say that this one certainly does its job well.

AND NOW, FOR SOME HONORABLE MENTIONS.  FOR THE SONGS THAT WOULD’VE MADE IT IN THE LIST IF WEREN’T FOR SOME RESTRICTIONS, TIME-RESTRAINTS, ETC. ETC.  (Take note that these are just a few out of many I could put)

AND NOW…..FOR MY TOP 1 ANIME ENDING THEME.

THE ONE YOU’VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR ALL MONTH LONG.

AN ENDING THEME THAT REALLY SHOULD NOT COME AS A SURPRISE TO MANY OF YOU.

1.)  Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari, by Supercell

          Bakemonogatari ED 1

OH MY GOOOOOOOSH ANOTHER SUPERCELL SONG ON THE NUMBER 1 SPOT KEN YOU BIASED DOG.

Well, sorry, it’s not my fault supercell makes good music (although I am slightly disappointed at what they’ve been creating as of late, but I digress).

Song-wise, this ED theme trumps everything else, blowing them out of the water with a superb melody that is both symphonic and upbeat at the same time.  The vocals were amazing and, composition-wise, the implementation of the piano in this song works extremely well.

Animation-wise, this ED theme is masterfully crafted, having not only a unique experimental style to it, but also being able to change itself for each arc in the Bakemonogatari series, reflecting each main female heroine’s arc as if in a story format.  This gives the ED theme a personalized style that is as unique as the show it represents, and that’s saying something.

In a series of change and entropy (plot, arcs, experimental animation, opening themes), this ending theme is the only constant.

But, with a song this good, aren’t you glad that it is?

IT’S OVEEEERRRR!

IT’S BEEN 3 FREAKING MONTHS AND I FINALLY FINISHED THE LIST.

Once again guys I thank you all for your patience.  I know it’s been a rough couple of months for me personally, and I just wanted to finish this list for you guys as soon as I can while not skimping out on the quality of these articles.  Now that I’ve adjusted to university life and have a clearer view of my schedule and how I can actually plan my writings, I will be able to be more consistent in terms of when I create my articles and when I publish them.  Specifically reviews, because I haven’t done those in a long time.  Mind you I’ll still be doing some special stuff here and there, especially with the holiday season fast approaching, it’s just that I feel that the reviews are more of a priority at this moment.

Alright, rant over.

As per usual, leave a comment down below pertaining to your thoughts on this review, on the show itself, or if you would like me to review anything.  And, speaking of liking, give the article a thumbs-up if you enjoyed it.

Thanks for sticking around, everyone.  Look forward to more frequent content with the same amount of intellectual stuffing and hopefully some humour.

Aaaaaaand, with that, I bid you all adieu.  This has been Ken, for thebuttonsmashers.com Anime Reviews, and I’ll see you guys in the future.

Byyyyyyeee.
