PlayStation Plus January 2016

As 2016 looms on the horizon, we can all resolve to…play more video games! Having a PlayStation Plus subscription certainly helps this goal, so let’s see what Sony has to offer for the month of January! This month, we have a great mix of  shooter, arena combat, RPG, tactical strategy, side scrolling platformer, and point and click adventure titles to choose from. There should be at least one game that piques your interest!\

Grim Fandango Remastered (PS4, Vita)

From the gleefully twisted mind of Tim Shafer, this cross-platform title follows the character of Manny, a travel agent in the Land of the Dead. Filled with humor and a film noir sensibility, this cleaned up version of a great game is a great addition to the Plus library for fans of the Lucas Art/Sierra style point and click adventures of old.

Hardware: Rivals (PS4)

Roughly based on a PlayStation 2 game, this open arena vehicle combat game appears on the surface like a more colorful, lighthearted Twisted Metal. Will this turn out to be this year’s Rocket League?

Dragon Age: Origins (PS3)

So you want to slay dragons? Well, how would you like to slay them? Bioware’s first game in the epic Dragon Age series gives you multiple characters with vastly different powers to play with, and half the fun is how they interact together. As with any Bioware game, choices must be made, and there are 100s of hours you can spend replaying this tale in different ways, with different characters and choices.

Medal of Honor Warfighter (PS3)

Playing as an elite operator, you experience the gritty nature of war in a globally set campaign based on real events. Adding a shooter to this month’s Plus games certainly makes the selection well rounded.

Nihilumbra (Vita)

In this indie side-scrolling puzzle platformer, color plays a huge role in the environment. As you change the color of walls and floors, different effects will help or hinder your progress. From the video below, it appears you should watch out for purple and red!

Legends of War Patton (Vita)

As General Patton , you command the Third Army at the height of World War II in this top down tactical combat game.

How do you feel about this month’s selection? What game grabs your interest? Let us know in the comments, and as always, you can hear my opinion about these and other games on the Plug and Play podcast.
