While PIXEL’s Kero Blaster is coming to PS4 in a few days, the legendary Cave Story will be coming to the Nintendo Switch on June 20. Nicalis announce that it will release in a both a physical and digital version for $29.99. It won’t be just a port of the game though, since Nicalis claims that this is the “definitive version” of the game. It will contain new challenges, levels, options and even future updates that will add content.
The following is Nicalis briefly talking about the game:
With its striking blend of platforming action, shooting and exploration, Cave Story+ offers plenty of “twitch” for the Switch. But storytelling is a huge contributing factor to its international success. Through a series of brief and often emotional conversations with various characters, players gradually learn the tragic history of the game’s cast as well as its amnesiac adventurer, whose athletic ability and weapon skills are much more advanced than his appearance would suggest.
Of course, you don’t need me to tell you that Cave Story is a classic that still holds up well today. The simple fact that they even bother to create more upgrades and content additions to an already fantastic game is pretty admirable and awesome. If you have somehow never played Cave Story, then I highly recommend you pick this up. Anyway, here are some screenshots from the new Switch version of the game:
