Has Dead Or Alive 6 Lost the Sex Appeal?

KOEI TECMO America’s DEAD OR ALIVE franchise has always been know for its lovely ladies. The female characters of this franchise have always been given special attention, but Dead or Alive 6 looks to end that trend. The publisher’s focus seems to be more targeted currently towards it’s gameplay, though I doubt they’ve forgotten what it’s core demographic like. With more practical outfits for female characters, one would be forgiven for assuming that all the T&A is over. If looking at KOEI TECMO America’s track record however it seems likely that we’ll see them in DLC form.

The roster thus far was shown off at Evo 2018 in Las Vegas a couple days ago. The first consumer playable build of DEAD OR ALIVE 6 featured: Kasumi, Helena, Hayate, Hayabusa, Jann Lee, Zack, Rig, and new character Diego.

Known as “The Uncrowned Street Hero,” Diego makes his DOA debut boasting the raw and brutal skills of a street fighter, utilizing everything from headbutts to tackles in taking down opponents. This gritty fighter grew up in the back alleys of New York, earning money to support his ailing mother by competing in many street matches. Long rumored to be the strongest fighter in his neighborhood, he is seen by many locals as a hero as he utilizes his experience brawling in confined quarters to impact fights with a set of strong-style moves.

How Dead Or Alive 6 Plays

Fights in Dead or Alive are based on a triangle system: strikes beat throws, throws beat holds, and holds beat strikes. When you land an attack of one type that beats another type, like landing a strike when an opponent tries to throw, that attack becomes a Hi Counter attack and does even more damage. In Addition We now have the Break Gauge System, a special attack meter new to the series. Use the Break Gauge to execute new tactics such as a Break Blow or a Break Hold.

  • A Break Blow is a special skill which has a powerful smash while parrying an enemy strike.
  • A Break Hold is the ultra hold which returns upper, middle, and lower attacks.

The game will also feature a Fatal Rush, which is a powerful combo attack of up to four neatly animated punches and kicks making a first time player look like an expert.

DEAD OR ALIVE 6 is currently in development for the PlayStation®4, Xbox One, and digitally on Windows PC via Steam®, and is slated for release in Early 2019.
