Google Stadia Price and Games revealed

Google has unveiled the pricing and other details for its all new cloud gaming service, GOOGLE STADIA which was announced earlier this year. With it being a cloud based experience performance will depend on the users network performance.

Google has outlined the expected performance in relation to different network speeds, starting with 10Mbps for 720/60fps stereo. This is a relatively low bar of entry for those of us with access to decent network infrastructure. For even better performance the second tier begins at 20Mbps for 1080/60fps HDR with 5.1 surround audio, and the highest being 35Mbps for 4K/60fps HDR video with 5.1 surround. This is all possible within a Chrome Tab.

Stadia’s Pro Edition will costs $9.99 USD per month. The “Founder’s Edition” is priced at $130 USD for the hardware starter kit with three months of premium service. Stadia will not only a subscription service, and will allow players to purchase games in Stadia library similar to the way they would on Steam only these games will be streamed to the player. The controllers will also set you back $69 USD

Google has promised that Stadia will support desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones at launch – but just the Pixel series, and in future they’ll be expanding it to include other smartphones.

Stadia will launch in November 2019 to 14 different countries which includes US, UK and Canada and none from Asia. At release it’ll include 31 games from 21 different publishers with games from Capcom, EA and Rockstar Games yet to be announced at E3 2019. Google says Bungie’s Destiny 2 is the only game guaranteed to let you pick up where you left off on Xbox or PC. Apparently they are using cross-save functionality and they’re still working with PlayStation to figure out the transition. Destiny 2 will be included for free with the Stadia Founder’s Edition via the subscription service and will not be purchasable separately.

For casual gaming this could be a nice piece of kit, but that is dependant on how well it’s capable of performing in a real world setting. Most of us who have used streaming services like Netflix and YouTube know that things can be great until something affects either our server or network. So now the question is, “does the world right now have good enough internet quality for Stadia?” Even with high bandwidths they’re not always stable.
