Last of Us II Delayed Indefinitely

Look, I’m just going to give it to you straight like Joel would.

I know this year has gotten off to a rocky start to put it mildly. I know that even though you were disappointed that The Last of Us Part II was delayed from February until May 29, most of you were content to wait so the game could be polished and as excellent as the first game. I know you were looking forward to Ellie’s continuing gritty saga of survival in a post fungus mutant plagued American wasteland.

You’re going to have to wait a bit longer.

How much longer? Well, that’s the bad news. We’re not really sure.

Naughty Dog’s entire statement on Twitter

Naughty Dog released an official statement today saying in part, “As you’ve likely just seen, the release of The Last of Us Part II has been delayed.
The good news is, we’re nearly done with development of The Last of Us Part II. We are in the midst of fixing our final bugs.
However, even with us finishing the game, we were faced with the reality that due to logistics beyond our control, we couldn’t launch The Last of Us Part II to our satisfaction. This meant delaying the game until such a time where we can solve these logistic issues.

Several retail sites have the placeholder release date of 12/31/2020 online, but as of today, there is no confirmed new release date. Rest assured, we will let you know when there is official word, and hopefully the third date will be soon and the final true release date.

While you wait, if you haven’t played the standalone adventure The Last of Us: Left Behind, you really should. It’s short, but it stars Ellie in a flashback before she met Joel, and it features a truly sweet moment in an abandoned mall before things fall apart in typical Last of Us fashion.
