“Ys: The Oath in Felghana” — Clock Tower & Genos Island!

Our journey is not too long from its conclusion at this point, but we’ve got quite a bit more to see yet in this final portion of Ys: The Oath in Felghana.

This time, we venture into the Clock Tower, which is very reminiscent for me of the Castlevania series of games. There’s platforming fun to be had here, as well as some decently tough enemies, but I guess years of experience with these types of games helps me to press onward and it doesn’t take too long for us to reach the Keep at the summit. It’s here that we see Chester facing down with Count McGuire, but Chester refuses to back off and we are forced to fight him. He’s considerably harder than before, but somehow I manage to defeat him my first try and then we are treated to several cutscenes and lots of revelations.

It turns out that McGuire and Chester were both pawns in a scheme created by Bishop Nikolas, who seeks to revive the dark creature Galbalan. The bishop battles both Chester and Adol and defeats us hands-down, and then he and Dularn make haste to Genos island with Elena.

It turns out, though, that Chester had Genos’s sword this whole time. Disgraced, he hands the blade to us and begs us to get his sister back. After tying up a few loose ends in Redmont, it’s off with Dogi to Genos Island, where we first face off against Dularn. Here, we defeat the sorcerer, and then we get a surprise as to its true identity. 🙂

Well, that’s it for this episode…Stay tuned – more fun is on the way!
