‘Tyrian Adventures’ – Episode 7: “Caudecus’s Manor w/ [SOL]”

I have been having a lot of fun with the guild I joined in January in “Guild Wars 2” called Ember of Solace (SOL for short). They are an accepting, skilled, and fun-loving group of players and it has been great getting to know them and do events with them. Since they recently designated me as the PvE Officer for the guild (which will include WvW and also RP activities), this has renewed my fire for recording adventures in GW2. Thus, Tyrian Adventures is no longer on active hiatus!

This video was recorded during a Story Mode run we did on February 17, 2014 of Caudecus’s Manor, the level 40 dungeon of the game. The run went amazingly smoothly and we completed it in under 30 minutes with no one being downed or defeated. Present during this run were me, AristeiaFalunel (the guild Newbie Officer), Zollion, and Morissa. Fal, Aristeia, and me are the ones on TeamSpeak.

It was a great run, and playing with SOL I think will help me produce more videos like this to show how fun the game is!

Oh, and Q – I told you I would record some of the interesting stuff from this game to get you more interested in it!

  1. Splendid gameplay Jess. Everyone was just so powerful. Everytime I see your gameplay for GW2 I get a bit more interested in it though I think if i were there I’d just get everyone killed.

  2. I bought this on release, bought the collectors edition, and then a month later took them up on the offer of a refund for customers who were disapointed.

From what i’ve heard, and seen, nothing has been improved to make me return to it. I was a HUGE fan of the original game. TBH i’m expecting them to either close the server or go F2P at some point soon. Have to admit i’ll pick it up again if it goes F2P

    1. I guess I don’t understand what you mean by free to play. The game has no fees, outside of the original box purchase and optional purchases in their Gem Store.

But, more to the point, the game has improved quite a bit. So much new content has been introduced since August/September of 2012, including new maps, new gameplay elements, the Fractals of the Mist, and above all that, the Living Story sequences, where every 2 weeks the game introduces a new plot element. Currently, a villain named Scarlet has razed the City of Lions Arch to where the city has been evacuated (and players can help evacuate citizens left behind) and new camps are set up around the surrounding zones with new storylines, quests, etc. to take part in. All of that in my opinion sets GW2 above the current MMOs on the market because they have, since last summer, have worked very hard to create a living and evolving world.

It is a shame when more people dismiss it before they realize that.

You should stay tuned for future videos where I’ll document more things like that.

      1. My view is pretty much the same as TotalBiscuits, GW2 is no different really than WoW or any other hot key based MMO. Yes it has a few different elements, but it’s basically the same hot key based action.

GW1 was the superior game due to the way it worked, it required a lot of skill to be good in that game.

Problem is that ANY MMO that comes out now is stale, as they all follow the hot key based system which just dosen’t have appeal for a lot of people anymore.

Look at Skyrim Online, sorry Elder Scrolls Online, that MMO is so bad, not to mention way over priced for what it is. we need a MMO revolution!!

        1. At least the newer content in GW2 requires more than cycling the 1-5 keys on the keyboard in order to achieve victory, especially Fractals in which some of the bosses can simply one-hit you with special attacks if you don’t learn how to dodge or reflect them. I tend to like the more action-based combat style the game currently has, though it may not be for everyone.

Also, the idea of Living Story content is not for everyone either, because there are a lot of players that don’t care at all about the game’s lore and instead want to raid dungeons or do PvP, and one problem GW2 faces currently is that the PvP system has effectively remained untouched since launch, outside of a few things like the addition of customized arenas. WvW has had a new map introduced and a few tweaks, but it is also untouched, and so despite ArenaNet wanting GW2 to become a game that people can use for eSports, I think they might be hurting themselves by not updating the game.

GW2 is one of the strongest MMO’s I’ve played, but a lot of the games I have played were mediocre at best and I played it for the RP community (such as TOR, or Star Trek Online, for example).

          1. WOW we have completely different views on ToR 😀

I found ToR to be the best i’ve played for a long time, but that was purely due to the story content. Outside of that i wasn’t interested in it, but i still love it.

I may pick up GW2 again at some point to see just how much it’s changed

          2. Hehe, well I think TOR was graphically pleasing and had a rich world. The story was well done. I thought that from a perspective of role-play (which a lot of people enjoy), the universe provided a great setting for it. But, to me the actual gameplay was bland at best, and I thought could have stood more to be, say, like KOTOR3 instead with an optional multiplayer portion 🙂
