“Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms” (Pre-Alpha) Play

Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms is a rogue-like game under development by Games Farm and currently available via Steam Early Access for $29.99. The game is in a pre-alpha stage right now and is quite buggy and short. Overall, the game reminds me of Diablo III and other titles along those lines, yet given the unfinished and unpolished nature of the title, it would be hard for me to recommend paying the asking price for early access. Perhaps, once cleaned up, though, the game will be better.

As it stands now, there are some interesting concepts here. I like how you play as a demon that can absorb the souls of the dead to give yourself new abilities or outright take their form (to fight in, to deceive people, etc.). In fact, this soul system effectively gives you a team of characters with their own health pools and stats, as well as skills, which is  pretty cool. If the game gets cleaned up in coming months, I think something good may be here.

Meanwhile, you can check out the first 30 minutes or so of gameplay and judge the game for yourself!

    1. It isn’t bad at all, and the graphics and play are good. The issue I have is with how limited it would be if you had to pay $30, which thankfully I did not 🙂
