“Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms” — Some Extra-Life Backlog Fun!

This year, rather than just doing my own thing for Extra-Life, I got invited to be part of a team called the League of Extraordinary Rodents. It mainly just consists of a few friends of mine, and it was my friend Jeremy that actually got me involved with it. But, anyway, as a team the goal of $200 for the year was smashed quite heavily, but technically people can continue to donate until the end of the year (December 31). Although my philosophy normally is that you can raise money throughout the year if you want, November 7 was the official day for live streaming, so that evening I did a stream of one game that’s been on my backlog for a while ever since checking out its alpha build in 2014 – Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms.

The game is pretty neat and has come a long ways since the last time I played it. Many of you out there will likely liken the game to Diablo or Torchlight, and those are pretty solid comparisons. However, the game has quite a bit more RPG-style gameplay to it as you’ll see in this video, and beyond that, there are some neat gameplay mechanics, such as the fact that you control a demon called the Devourer and in turn you can take over and control different souls that each have their own abilities and advantages/disadvantages when interacting with NPCs.

This one isn’t without its flaws though, as I found the performance still needed work, but the game was most certainly playable and fun nonetheless.

I hope you enjoy this one, and please – consider donating to Extra Life! It’s a great cause and every little bit counts! 🙂
