Take a look at Pokemon Go!

Niantic Labs and the Pokemon Company are on a roll. Earlier today Niantic revealed a few more details as to how Pokemon Go! will run once released for smartphone as a representation of the next generation of their “Real World Gaming Platform”.

Pokemon Go! will be combining mobile location technology along with augmented reality to craft a game play experience that Niantic hopes will motivate players to get up, go outside, and explore. Catching wild Pokemon will require players to explore their surroundings as most will only be found in their native environments; e.g. Water Pokemon appearing near rivers, beaches and lakes.

Also announced was the news of Pokemon egg hatching. Players will be required to walk actual steps to hatch eggs. It was also revealed that players will be able to acquire things like Pokemon eggs and pokeballs at places called Poke Stops which will be found at interesting locations such as historical landmarks, monuments, public art pieces and such. If you aren’t familiar with your neighborhood you’re about to be.

Don’t you go thinking they forgot about the battle aspect. Although previously announced today’s announcement confirms the existence of Pokemon Gyms and Teams. Players will be encouraged to join one of three teams as they go out and compete for ownership and prestige of Gyms. This will be done by either leaving your captured Pokemon in a allied gym or heading out to battling opponent’s Pokemon in a rival team’s gym. Pokemon Go! will definitely keep you going as, just like Poke Stops, Gyms will be found at real world locations.

Pokemon Go! is currently prepping for its live field test in Japan while still in development meaning that features, appearances and even languages aren’t yet finalized. I for one however like what I see.
