“Rescuties:” It’s like “Fire!” with Babies!

A little while back, I received an email from Charles Deck, developer of Rescuties, asking me if I’d ever heard of his game. Sadly, I had to answer no to that question, but he was very polite and told me about the game’s KickStarter campaign and even sent over a copy of the KickStarter Demo, even though I wasn’t an official backer or anything (thanks, Charles!).

On the surface, this is a really silly game. Actually, it’s more like a series of mini-games to be fair to it. In the preview build I was sent, though, I could only play two of them.

The general premise is simple: you are a rescuer of some sort and by controlling your left and right hands and moving around, you either need to toss things to other people (in the mini-game about throwing life-savers to people in the ocean) or save babies being tossed out of burning buildings by firefighters. If you think it sounds weird, you’re right – it definitely is. I asked Charles if the game was somewhat inspired by the old Game & Watch title Fire!, and he told me that indeed it was. Yet, Charles wanted to bring that zany experience up a level by adding babies, dogs, and more to the mix, all with the option of kissing them before tossing them into waiting ambulances.

At its core, this title is designed with VR in mind, but the non-VR demo is still pretty fun. I do suck at it, admittedly, but I think that’s mainly because the non-VR controls are a bit wonky and are a work in progress.

In any event, the game did receive its funding on KickStarter and the project’s KS page is really a great way to keep up with its ongoing development.

Anyway, check it out, see what you think, and stay tuned – more fun is on the way!
