Why does SCARLET NEXUS Look like Code Vein?

During Microsoft’s XBOX Series X ‘Game-play’ Showcase they revealed a new title from Bandai Namco for the platform titled – Scarlet Nexus. It’s set to be the beginning of a new franchise by the publisher, but somehow it looks strangely a lot like one of their existing titles – Code Vein.

Now keep in mind that we don’t have any definitive answers from the developers, but we are able to extrapolate that all Bandai Studios seem to be universally using a single engine for all their games. That engine happens to be the Unreal Engine 4.

This powerful engine has been used to create games ranging from Fortnite Battle Royale to Gears 5. Unreal 4 is not only versatile to be used for a range of titles, but also platforms. It supports everything from current platforms like the Nintendo Switch and PS4 to upcoming ones like the XBOX Series X and PS5.

Here’s the full list of supported platforms:

  • Microsoft Windows
  • macOS
  • Linux
  • HTML5
  • iOS
  • Android
  • Nintendo Switch
  • PlayStation 4
  • Xbox One
  • Magic Leap One
  • HTC Vive
  • Oculus Rift
  • PlayStation VR
  • Google Daydream
  • OSVR
  • Samsung Gear VR
  • HoloLens 2
  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X
  • Stadia

Best yet it’s free to download, and all future updates will also be free. Developers of commercially released games or applications will pay its creators – Epic Games a 5 percent royalty on gross revenue above $3,000 per product, per quarter. With all it’s options, features, and that pricing its not difficult to understand why Bandai Namco and other developers have chosen it for their titles.

Tales of Arise

In the case with Scarlet Nexus it has a bit more factors correlating with it using Unreal Engine 4. The game is being developed by former members of the Tales Of series – a series which is seeing it’s next instalment use the exact same engine. Even more so this is a game which is also being heading up by the same producer as Code Vein, Keita Iizuka.

Where does it come from?

Iizuka’s style doesn’t just stem from his work from the recent Code Vein (2019), but also his work Assistant Producer on the visually similar God Eater 2: Rage Burst (2015). Both games bare a very iconic look that has become almost a trademark for the famed producer. His dark cyberpunk anime style with its Reds and Blacks stood out in the past but can it continue?

God Eater 2

Well that’s a question we can’t answer. What we can say is that we’re looking forward to see what comes of this upcoming new franchise.

SCARLET NEXUS will be available for the Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via STEAM.
