like the rest of shows on this list this one had it’s start as a youtube web series…..what is different about this gem is that it is not based on gaming, but its is still grounded in “nerd culture” and is one of my favorite web series, so it more than makes the cut. The director Jake Jarvi is quite a genius and also a great actor…..this youtuber is quite the humble one too, he uploads updates and responds to messages as the new episodes are being created to keep the fans a part of the creation process. Now about the show it’s about a group of people who have super powers who decide to live together. to avoid spoiling the plot i will say no-more than other great youtubers are a part of the production and cast like Wheezy waiters. Go watch it now!!!
2: second to none but one other is (Video game high school)
Ok now back to the games. VGHS is one of the more famous of all these web series. This one has some of the highest production value of it’s peers, boasting some amazing special effects and acting that would make spielberg blush. The plot revolves around Brian D; a simple FPS player just like most of you. the only difference is brian lives in a world where gaming is celebrated. The driving point of the story is the war between Brian and the main antagonist “the law”, a video game super star equivalent of justin bieber. Brian kills Law in an online match in front of the rest of the world and the crazy story starts from there. It is also worth mentioning that Freddie Wong is a major part of this amazing show.
1: the winner and #1 is (The guild)
Well here we are, good old number one . When i started making this list i already knew what was going to be number one. There was no internal debate in my mind as to what would have the glorious spot. The guild is the pinnacle web series gold and is a testament as to how simple a show can begin and how large it can become. This wonderful series is based on a wonderful character by the codename of codex (perfectly played by the beautiful Felicia Day) and her Guild as they go on quest in game and IRL. Now for those who don’t know a guild is an association of individuals of the same trade or pursuits, formed to protect mutual interests and maintain standards. In games like mmo’s this translates into a group of gamers coming together for a common goal to take on in game quest that they may otherwise be unable to complete on their own. Normally online gamers never meet their guild mates IRL because of certain restrictions like time, physical location or just plain disinterest in doing so, but Codex and her band of misfits decide to defy the odds when they realise that they all live in close proximity of each other and met IRL. The story just keeps getting better from there, even featuring stars like Wil Wheaton and Simon Helberg from the hit Tele show the Big bang theory. the guild is a must see for any gamer that is looking for the best that the web has to offer. Even if you’re not a gamer i highly recommend checking it out, it’s just good comedy …..
