Manga day: Love Lucky!

love lucky

Some of us don’t have much romantic luck no matter how much we may want. It’s sort of a curse to see a person living in a seemingly happy relationship while in actuality their partner is screwing them over. As such it’s sort of become the norm these days for people to not get too attached. No love, no marriage, just a shag and move on. However there are some of us have that wish for a quality relationship, but can’t seem to find one and so we end up vicariously enjoying that romance through the literature we read, movies we watch and music we listen to.  I have personally enjoyed the simi-visual story style of romantic manga stories. They are a bit transparent in their premise and can sometimes be a bit unrealistic, but in the end they are quite entertaining and heart warming.

As an avid manga reader I come across may types of manga, and of course romantic manga tend to be my favourite types. The sad truth though is that not all manga is good. A lot of what is translated is either poorly translated or just a plain bad story. Then on that off occasion we one comes across a gem like Love Lucky. Written by Katsu, Aki and published from November 10, 2003 to October 23, 2006. Love Lucky is by far one of the best romance stories you will ever read. It’s about a couple, who from two completely different worlds defy the societal boundaries placed between them because of their love for each other. Our main lead is a simple salary man that works in a beer company. He’s the manga version of all men that just want the simple, honest loving life. Fuuta is however quite gullible as are many men of this nature and so he is used and deceived by a lot of women. As the story progresses he shows himself to be selfless in matters that would otherwise end bad/good for him (however you wanna look at it). Fuuta by nature is just honest and trusting of almost anything that he is told. On one occasion he was even left on his wedding day by a woman who had used him conveniently for her own gain. Now as for his love she is of the total opposite verity.

Hikaru is a star, an Idol. She is adored by all and can have whatever man she so desires. She’s young, 20 to be exact and has made it her goal that at the age of 20 that she will get married to someone that loves the real her. To do this she goes to a marriage agency mixer in a mask, yes a mask (looking like a criminal). There she meets Fuuta. The two starts to talk to each other and after a while arrange for another date.  This all happens without her once taking off the mask. They then date for a while with the mask intact and he never once seems bothered by the fact that he has not seen her face. In fact he grows to love her more. Hikaru then out of nowhere proposes (“woot woot, you go girl”) and they get secretly married. It is then on their wedding night that she removes her mask, revealing the Idol beneath it.

As a story I’ll not spoil the rest for you because I want you to go read and experience it yourself. It’s not too long, heck not long at all. It only has 63 chapters so one could technically read it all in one sitting if they wanted to. This manga is of course ecchi so you will see some or maybe a lot of bare boobs, there is barely a chapter without a pantsu shot or some naked boob, so if that is something that bothers you, then man the Frak up grow a pair and get to reading because the story is worth it.

What else I’m reading:

  • Nana to kimio
  • Nana to kauru
  • Minamoto-kun monogatari
  • Sket Dance

Well with that I’ll just wish you all a splendid conclusion of your Mangaday. I know everyone is reading something awesome, so tell me what that is in the comments section below and remember have a wonderful Manga Day. 😉
