Playstation Plus Free Games for July 2015

plusplus

The hottest month of the summer is here, and a new batch of free games for Plus members is available. I wish I could say the games were as hot as the weather, but there are a few interesting titles I look forward to trying.

Rocket League (PS4)

This fastpaced multiplayer game feautures cars playing soccer, and looks like a lot of fun. Insane stunts, online and offline mode, and even a cameo from a certain ice cream truck from Twisted Metal make me want to check out this insane mash-up. This is also a brand new game, which helps give this month’s Plus membership value.

Styx: Master of Shadows (PS4)

When you’re playing Assassin’s Creed, do you ever wish you weren’t playing as a handsome Italian aristocrat, but were instead a hideous 200 year old goblin? Styx has got you covered. Bringing the stealth assassination game into the fantasy realm, Styx gives you magical attacks in addition to traditional throat-slitting options. All joking aside, this game is the one I’m looking forward to the most.

Rain (PS3)

In Rain, you play as an invisible boy following an invisible girl chased by invisible monsters. The only way you see any of these characters is when the titular Rain outlines your silhouette.  This moody, melancholy game reminds me of Ico, with it’s environmental puzzles, pulled back camera, and general feel. I look forward to giving it a shot, I’m curious how it will be playing a game when you can’t always see where you’re going.

Entwined (PS4, PS3, PS Vita)

Two fiery creatures circle the screen, each collecting power ups and dodging enemies on their half of the screen, never able to meet…or will they? This game uses both thumb-pads to create a kind of two-player experience for one player with bright, colorful graphics.

Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions Evolved

The stripped down simple polygon shooter gets a little more complex with the addition of battlefields in 3 dimensions. Bright, colorful, and frenetic, this game is sure to get your pulse pounding. This is the first month this game is available for the Vita, and for Plus members, it’s free!

Mousecraft (PS4, PS3, PS Vita)

If you’re a fan of The Lemmings, or games like Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move, this game might appeal to you. As a crazy cat scientist, you manipulate Tetris-like blocks to help an army of relentless mice marching across the screen to get cheese.

As always, I’m excited to try out some of this month’s free games, and I’d love to hear what games you enjoyed in the comments. You can always hear more about these and other games on the Plug and Play podcast!

  1. Sad how dull PS+ has become these days, though admitedly for the first time in a while it has a couple of interesting games this time. Styx is awesome fun, and frankly makes up for the rest of the crap we’ve had for so long. Though for me i already bought it not so long ago when it was on sale >.<

Rain is also interesting, just a shame its on PS3. Hopefully this is a sign of Sony turning around and giving us some good solid games…though i doubt it
